HABITAT, HOME DEPOT TO HELP LOCAL VETERAN

Habitat for Humanity of Utah County joined American Fork Home Depot employees this past Thursday to help a local Veteran in need. Staff and volunteers installed a disabled accessible ramp and water softener and purifier for Gulf War Veteran, James Roth, and his family in Eagle Mountain. This was Habitat's first local critical home repair project and is part of the affiliate's new Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative. Special thanks to The Home Depot for making this beneficial project possible and to Starbucks for providing drinks for volunteers.

STUDENTS TO HONOR DR. KING WITH “DAY ON”

Students from Brigham Young University and Utah Valley University and other volunteers honored the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King by helping Habitat for Humanity of Utah County with a neighborhood revitalization project during the Martin Luther King Day holiday this past Monday. The student volunteers installed a wood floor at Salle D'Escrime, a non-profit community fencing program for youth in Lindon. Special thanks to BMC West for donating project material and to JDawgs for providing lunch for the volunteers.

HABITAT CELEBRATES NATIONAL RADON ACTION MONTH

Habitat for Humanity of Utah County is working with the Utah Cancer Action Network, Utah County Health Department, and the Utah Department of Environmental Quality to encourage community members to test their homes for radon during January as part of National Radon Action Month. Habitat is providing information about radon and offering radon test kits for a small fee Orem ReStore. The affiliate has already sold over 80 test kits since the last week in December. The local Habitat affiliate has also been installing radon mitigation systems in all their new and renovation homes in Utah County for the past year and half.

Thanks to all those that helped with this year's "It's a Wrap" gift wrap booth at Provo Towne Centre! Many hours of volunteer service were given at this annual holiday fundraiser helping Habitat raise over $3,000 for its affordable housing mission. Habitat for Humanity of Utah County finished a home for a family in need just in time for Christmas. Mike and Lorinda Feeney cut the ribbon on their "new" home on December 22, 2011 in front of many friends and family members. Lorinda's mother even traveled from back east for the occasion. The three bedroom renovation home, complete with a decorated Christmas tree, is Habitat's 48th Utah Valley Home and the fourth home to be rehabilitated in the affiliate's service area. Special thanks to all those that made the home possible - especially those that went the extra mile to get the home finished by Christmas.

Many Alpine LDS Stake members and others joined Janae Rodriguez and her family as she cut the ribbon on her new Habitat home in Lehi just in time for Christmas. The home, located at 814 East Grey Goose Road, was Habitat’s first ever home in Lehi and was truly a grassroots effort. The three bedroom, two bath home was generously sponsored, built, and decorated by members of the Alpine LDS Stake and other community residents living in Alpine, Utah. Habitat for Humanity of Utah County celebrated its 20th Birthday over the weekend with a cake cutting event and huge ReStore Sale. Habitat board, staff and committee members joined Habitat homeowners and other supporters for a small program and cake cutting in the morning followed by an all day celebration at the ReStore. Founding board member, David Dominguez, was in attendance and shared a few remarks. The local Habitat affiliate was started in 1991 by agroup of local community members that were concerned about substandard housing in the county. Since that time, the organization has build and renovated 48 safe and affordable homes, providing a “hand up” to 76 adults and 150 children in our community. DEMOLISHING METH!

Wolverine Public Relations at Utah Valley University sponsored a fun event in the Student Center hallway during lunch on Tuesday to help promote Habitat's Demolish Meth campaign with students. Students had the opportunity to "demolish" a house made of garbage cans with a large exercise ball while learning about how meth affects homes in the local community. Special thanks to Wendy's for providing $1.00 Frosty coupons and to the UVU Service Council for providing prizes for the event.

The Demolish Meth project is an effort to turn homes, destroyed by methamphetamine, into safe livable homes for local families. Community members can donate a $1.00 or more to the project on their state tax return.

Eleven new graduates from the “Getting Ahead in a Just-Getting’-By World” program were honored at a graduation ceremony on Wednesday at the Scenicview Academy in North Provo. Graduates included partner families from Habitat for Humanity of Utah County, clients of Community Action Services and Food Bank, and other community members. To date, 92 community members have graduated from the life planning program that was started locally in 2008.

TD Ameritrade employees, community leaders, and others joined the Crossley and Gardner families as they cut the ribbon on their new twin home units in Orem on Wednesday. The three bedroom twin home units, located 167/169 East 800 South, were sponsored by TD Ameritrade and built in less than five months by the company’s local employees and other community volunteers. This is the third area Habitat home built and generously sponsored by TD Ameritrade and the 45th and 46th homes to be built or renovated in Utah Valley by the local Habitat affiliate.

Members of the BYU Habitat's Chapter dressed up for Halloween and came out for the first annual Haunted House Build at the twin home in Orem this past Saturday. Costumes included a macaw, lumberjack, sushi chef, bumble bee, hippie, kitty cat, and cowboy. Prizes were awarded for first, second, and third place for their costumes. Participants were "treated" to Krispy Skremes and apple cider for their "tricks," including installing fence posts, paint touch-up, and clean-up.

Students, faculty, and staff at Utah Valley University and other community members joined Michelle Mariscal and her two children as they cut the ribbon on their new Habitat home this past Tuesday. This is the third Habitat for Humanity home that the University has helped to sponsor. The new three bedroom Habitat home, located at 764 West 600 South, Springville, was framed by UVU Building Construction Students, under the direction of Associate Professor DeWayne Erdmann. In addition to construction, the UVU community also filled the cupboard and decorated rooms in the home,provided a move-in kit, and sponsored February's “No Snow” Indoor 5K to raise money for the project home. Special thanks to Utah Valley University and all those that made this home possible for the Mariscal family.

Real Salt Lake’s Mascot, Leonardo the Lion, lent a paw to promote Habitat for Humanity’s Meth House Rebuild project this past week. Leo helped TD Ameritrade employees install finish work at twin home Habitat is building with the Crossley and Gardner families in Orem. Video footage from the build day will be used to create a public service announcement for Habitat's Meth House Rebuild project. The Meth House Rebuild project is an effort to turn homes, destroyed by methamphetamine, into safe livable homes for local families. Habitat for Humanity of Utah County celebrated World Habitat Day 2011 with a cake cutting celebration and a large ReStore sale this past Monday at its ReStore Home Improvement Outlet. World Habitat Day is designated each year by the United Nations as a time to reflect on the dire need for adequate shelter around the globe. Additionally, Habitat for Humanity International dedicated its 500,000th house in Maai Mahiu, Kenya, and raised the walls on its 500,001st house in Paterson, New Jersey on Monday as well in celebration of the shelter awareness day.

Habitat for Humanity of Utah County held its International Day of Prayer and Action for Human Habitat event for the local community on Sunday, September 18th at the Provo Community Church. Pastor Dean Jackson, Reverend Daniel Haas, Habitat Board President, Val Hale, and Habitat partner family member, April Crossley, provided thoughtful and encouraging words. Habitat supporters, Chaplain Linda Walton and Johnny McCoy, offered prayers of gratitude and service. Well known soloist, Serena Kanig Benish, and her students from Utah Valley University shared their talents through beautiful and uplifting music. Refreshments were served.

The International Day of Prayer and Action, observed on the third Sunday in September, is a time when the entire Habitat for Humanity community is urged to come together in prayer for those in need of shelter. Through prayer, Habitat for Humanity continues to make a dramatic difference in the lives of people around the world. Many volunteers are drawn to this ministry after hearing God’s call and seeking God’s guidance through prayer. Other prayers are answered when families and communities grow in the shelter of God’s grace. The hurdles of funding and building homes are overcome through the miracles of prayer. We appreciate the Provo Community Church for hosting the annual event and those that attended and participating in the inspirational evening.

Over 1,200 community volunteers representing many local businesses and community organizations participated in the United Way's Annual Day of Caring event on Thursday. Volunteers had a delicious breakfast at Cougar Stadium and then helped at a number of service projects throughout the valley. Local Adobe employees joined Habitat for Humanity of Utah County and employees from TD Ameritrade to help put siding on a twin home the local Habitat affiliate is currently building with the Crossley and Gardner families in Orem.

Habitat for Humanity of Utah County joined over 50 community members and volunteers this past Saturday to kick off its new Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative Orem's Cherry Hill Neighborhood. Following a short celebration at the local park, volunteers worked on ten revitalization projects in the neighborhood including lead base paint abatement and paint prep, landscaping, general clean-up, and fence painting.

Under the new initiative, the local Habitat affiliate will be targeting neighborhoods where they are currently renovating homes and will be engaging in neighborhood beautification activities, such as, exterior painting and critical home repairs for low-income homeowners.

BIKERS PEDAL TO END POVERTY HOUSING

Cyclists from across the country came pedaling through Utah County this past week to help us build on our current twin home project in Orem. This annual cross-country trek raises funds and awareness to end poverty housing in our nation, with 30+ young adults logging over 4000 miles between South Carolina and California. The volunteer cyclists stayed at the Provo Seventh Day Church while in town and enjoyed a yummy spaghetti dinner prepared by two of Habitat's partner mom's - April Crossley and Ryann Gardner. They also had meals provided by Wendy's and Outback Steakhouse.

In return for their wonderful service, our affiliate donated a portion of this week's ReStore profits to the Christina Clarke Genco Safe Biking Fund. Clarke Genco, one of the trip leaders for the ride, was tragically killed in rural Alabama in June while riding with the group.

As part of the America’s Freedom Festival at Provo Freedom Days activities, Habitat for Humanity of Utah County, NeighborWorks of Provo, and Rural Housing Development Corporation teamed up to sponsor the annual “A Day at the Beach” event for both kids and kids at heart over the Fourth of July Weekend. The event featured Staker Parson's gigantic sand truck, thousands of free balloons, fun prizes, "Habby the Clown", and information about local housing programs. Habitat Families Receive Training, Refurbished Computers

Habitat homeowners and partner families recently had an opportunity to receive a free refurbished computer and monitor from Redemtech, a world leader in refurbishing large volumes of PCs from businesses. Participating families were required to attend a computer class in order to obtain the free computer equipment. The class was conducted by Habitat's own "computer nerd", Jeff McDonald, last week with six families in attendance. Four additional families will have the opportunity to receive a computer in the future.

This past Tuesday, TD Ameritrade management and employees joined other community members as April Crossley and Ryann Gardner broke ground on their new twin home units at 169 East 800 South in Orem. This is the third Utah County Habitat home that TD Ameritrade has graciously funded. Employees from the investment company’s Draper office will also be donating their time to help construct the three bedroom, two bathroom twin home units over the next four to five months. Habitat for Humanity of Utah County held its third annual Tour de Habitat Lakes to Peaks Benefit Ride this past Saturday. This year's ride was the official cycling event for the Orem City's Summerfest Celebration. As part of the event, three rides were held for varying skill levels - Lakes, Peaks, and Family. In the morning, many of the 75 registered riders took on the lofty challenge to ride up all three peaks in Provo Canyon -Squaw Peak, South Fork, and Sundance. Others took it a bit easier and road around Orem or limited their ride to one or two of the peaks. In the evening, 55 adults and children rode the parade route with Hootz from the Orem Owlz leading the way. You couldn't have asked for a more perfect day!Special thanks to all those who volunteered for or participated in the cycling event benefitting Habitat's local affordable housing efforts. Habitat partner families, staff, and volunteers enjoyed a fun but cold and rainy spring barbecue this past Monday in the backyard of the Food and Care Coalition in Provo. The families dined on hamburgers, hot dogs, and sausage. Each family also brought a salad or dessert to share. The barbecue is one of four activities that the local Habitat sponsors for its homeowners and families yearly as part of its Pride in Ownership program. Western Metals Recycling recently presented a check for $1,812.41 to Habitat for Humanity of Utah County. The generous donation was determined based on the amount of scrap steel and non-ferrous metal that was recycled at company's new Provo location during the week of Earth Day in April. Bike to Build vs. Mother Nature

Over 45 motorcycle riders and 15 passengers braved the rain, wind, cold, and even hail to ride in Third Annual Bike to Build Motorcycle Ride for Affordable Housing on Saturday, May 14th, helping Habitat for Humanity of Utah County raise over $1,200 for its local housing mission. The motorcyclists enjoyed breakfast at Monarch Honda Powerhouse, a beautiful ride with a little bad weather through Fairview and Nephi, a delicious lunch and live music at Timpanagos Harley Davidson, and some great door prizes. Utah Teams Up with Habitat for Humanity to Promote Radon-Free Homes

To educate builders and raise public awareness about radon-resistant new construction (RRNC), the Utah Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Radiation Control (DRC) teamed up with theHabitat for Humanity of Utah County (Habitat) during National Radon Action Month (NRAM). DRC partnered with Habitat – a nonprofit, housing organization that provides affordable housing for people in need – to promote healthier homes.
“Consumers are becoming more aware that radon is a health risk, and building a new home with radon-resistant features can help to reduce elevated levels,” Radon Program Coordinator Christine Keyser said. “In addition, installing radon-resistant features at the time of construction is easier and cheaper than fixing a radon problem later. According to DRC’s radon measurement data, one in every three homes in Utah will have elevated levels of radon.“
In preparation for NRAM, DRC and Habitat offered a continuing education core class on RRNC training. In September 2010, Habitat builders and other Utah home builders joined together at the Utah County Health Department to learn how to build radon-resistant homes (pictured below). Following the training, Habitat unveiled its first-ever radon-resistant home in Utah County. Miss Utah Christina Lowe offered her support as crews finish framing the 1,500-square foot house, which was being built for a low-income family of six.
To continue this momentum throughout the month of January, Habitat educated the general public about radon gas and promoted the importance of radon testing. Habitat sold radon test kits in its ReStore in Orem, Utah – amounting to 38 radon test kits sold during the first week of January alone. DRC was also able to secure a Utah Cancer Action Network (UCAN) grant to provide certification training to more Habitat and Utah builders. Habitat has committed to continue providing radon education and testing, and to building more radon-resistant Habitat homes in the future.

Fifteen new graduates from the “Getting Ahead in a Just-Getting’-By World” program were honored at a graduation ceremony on May 5th at the Scenicview Academy. Graduates included partner families from Habitat for Humanity of Utah County, clients of Community Action Services and Food Bank, and other community members. To date, 81 community members have graduated from the program that was started locally in 2008.

The Getting Ahead program is a step-by-step life planning and education program, sponsored by Habitat and Community Action, which includes facilitated education, group support, and hands on experiences. The overall goal of the program is to help area families work together to break the poverty cycle, find solutions to community issues, and build bridges to a more stable and productive life. The next group will begin in the fall of 2011.

On Thursday, May 5th, members of all faiths came together to pray for their community, state, nation, and world. The 60th annual National Day of Prayer was held at the Provo Community United Church of Christ and included uplifting remarks from Senior United States District Judge David Sam, prayer and scripture readings by local government and community religious leaders, beautiful music by One Voice Children's Choir, pianist Bob Bailey, and harpist, Hailey Felberg, and a flag ceremony and veteran's tribute. Habitat for Humanity of Utah County was named the featured philanthropy for the evening. We were honored to be part of such a wonderful prayer event.

Habitat for Humanity of Utah County ended a successful Women Build Week working with a diverse group of community volunteers including local city council members (Margaret Black, Karen McCandless, and Kathryn Schramm), members of the Democratic Women of Utah County, Mariscal family members, students, Realtors, and Miss Orem. These hard working volunteers worked together to finish the drywall in the kitchen and family room in the Springville Habitat home. Eagle Mountain Mayor, Heather Jackson, gave some inspirational remarks during lunch. It was a fantastic end to a wonderful week!

Yesterday morning, Running with Angels author, Pam Hansen, joined 15 female health care professionals and staff from Utah Valley Regional Medical Center to hang drywall and shingle the roof at the Mariscal Habitat home in Springville as part of Habitat for Humanity of Utah County's Women Build Week. The volunteers, including the local hospital's whole female radiology staff, accomplished a lot in the four hour shift - dry walling a bathroom and closet in the home and shingling the back side of the roof. Habitat for Humanity of Utah County’s ReStore Home Improvement Outlet celebrated its fourth birthday with a cake cutting celebration and a huge Earth Day Sale this past weekend. The store located at 340 South Orem Blvd., Orem sells new and used building materials, appliances, and furniture at a discount to the public to help raise money to further the local Habitat’s affordable housing mission. Since its inception in 2007, the local ReStore has not only raised tens of thousands of dollars for the affiliate but is now paying most of the operation costs for the affiliate and store. The very successful home improvement outlet has also kept over two million pounds of waste out of local landfills.

Utah Valley's National Day of Prayer service, will be held at the Provo Community United Church of Christ, 175 North University, on Thursday, May 5 at 7 p.m.

The keynote speaker at the 60th annual commemoration will be Judge David Sam, Senior United States District Judge.

National Day of Prayer is an opportunity for members of all faiths to gather and pray for their community, state, nation and world. President Barak Obama said, “We know too that whatever our differences, there is one law that binds all great religions together. Jesus told us to "love thy neighbor as thyself." The Torah commands," That which is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow." In Islam, there is a Hadith that reads, "None of you truly believes until he wishes for his brother what he wishes for himself." And the same is true for Buddhists and Hindus; for followers of Confucius and for humanists. It is, of course, the Golden Rule—the call to love one another; to understand one another; to treat with dignity and respect those with whom we share a brief moment on this Earth.”

"With much of the world being in a state of turmoil, President Obama’s remarks delivered at the annual National Prayer Breakfast on February 3, in Washington D.C. helped set the tone for this year’s National Day of Prayer," Chaplain Linda P. Walton, chair, said. "The overall theme for the National Day of Prayer this year is 'A Mighty Fortress is Our God.' Virtually every faith enjoys a form of prayer and, in this time of conflict and difficulty, we want to focus on what we have in common and not our differences.”

Prayers and scripture readings will be given by government and community religious leaders including representatives from the Seventh-day Adventist Church, American Indian faith, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Judaism, and Islamic faiths.

A flag ceremony, national anthem, and veteran’s tribute will be presented by Troop 51 from the Provo Community United Church of Christ, led by General Jeffrey Burton.

Featured philanthropy for the year will be Habitat for Humanity of Utah County, a non-profit, ecumenical organization committed to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness in the county. They have built or remodeled 43 homes since 1991.

Habitat for Humanity of Utah County participated in many activities and events over this snowy and cold April weekend.

The Habitat ReStore had a booth at the Home and Garden Expo at Utah Valley University (luckily inside the UCCU Events Center) and gave out hundreds of ReStore coupons, some deck screws, and even sold some radon kits.

Other ReStore staff and volunteers donned white "zoot" suits to collect paint in the snow at the County's Hazardous Waste Collection Day at the Orem Public Works Building. Tons of paint was collected and will be sold at the ReStore on Orem Blvd. to raise money for Habitat's local affordable housing mission.

Members of the community joined Mike and Lorinda Feeney Saturday afternoon as they kicked off the renovation of their Habitat rehabilitation home at 1564 South 100 East, Orem. To raise awareness for the Methamphetamine Housing Reconstruction & Rehabilitation Fund, the Habitat affiliates in Utah held a "Check the Box" Media Event this past week in Salt Lake. The press conference was held at a Habitat twin home that was built on some property where a meth contaminated home was formerly located. The Salt Lake affiliate tore the meth home down last year and built the new twin home on the property, providing homeownership opportunities for two families in need in the community. Utah State Senator Karen Mayne, who sponsored the legislation last year to create the fund, was the keynote speaker. Salt Lake County Sheriff Jim Winder and Salt Lake Valley Habitat's Executive Director Stephen Tagliaferri also shared remarks at media event.

The Methamphetamine Housing Reconstruction & Rehabilitation Fund will demolish meth contaminated housing and rebuild over the sites. This will help Habitat for Humanity affiliates, and replace the site with a simple, decent and affordable home. Donors can check the box under code 10 of line 28 on their 2010 tax form to donate $1 or more. Donations need to reach $30,000.00 for the fund to remain on Utah state tax forms. March marks an exciting time for Utah County’s Habitat for Humanity. 2011 is our 20th anniversary and we are hoping for 20 more prosperous years. In order to accommodate that vision, we are preparing for our second annual fundraising breakfast.

Themed, “Help Us Grow in 2011,” our breakfast is aiming to receive local donations to provide our local Habitat affiliate an opportunity to showcase its programs while raising much needed funding for the organization’s affordable housing mission.

Becky Lockhart, speaker of the House, and Utah State Legislature Representative of Utah House District 64 is the featured keynote speaker. Tenor Brian Stucki will be performing the music.

The breakfast will take place Friday, March 18, 2011 from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the Utah Valley University UCCU Events Center. It will be held in the Presidential South Suite, 3rd floor, located at 800 West University Parkway, in Orem.

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore Home Improvement Outlet is the new home for the Orem Bountiful Baskets Food Co-op on Saturday mornings. The Co-op offers conventional and organic produce baskets to community participants for a small monetary contribution.

As part of January's National Radon Action Month, Habitat for Humanity of Utah County is educating the public about radon gas and promoting the importance of radon testing at the Habitat ReStore in Orem. Additionally, the affiliate is also selling radon test kits for $6.00 (online and at the store). During the first week of January, over 38 test kits were sold.

Radon is an invisible and odorless gas that causes as many as 21,000 deaths each year and is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. One in 15 homes across the United States has elevated levels of the deadly carcinogen that can only be detected through testing. Homeowners and renters are encouraged to learn how to protect their families from this cancer causing gas and take action by testing their homes. This past year, Habitat for Humanity of Utah County received a grant from the Utah Cancer Action Network to provide radon education and testing and help to offset the costs of putting radon mitigation systems in area Habitat homes. The local Habitat affiliate has committed to put a radon mitigation system in all future Habitat homes built or renovated in the valley.

Local Mascots joined area Junior Jazz teams for a fun-filled, totally "mad" basketball game this past Saturday at Timpview High School to help raise money for the local Habitat affiliate. The Mascots, which included Cosmo, Bumble, Hootz and Holly, Willie, Fox, and the Green Fiber Frog, gave the crowd quite the show. Jean's Golden Girls "whipped it up" while others tried to "build" homes out of various material at half-time. The cheer squads from Utah Valley University, Lehi Junior High, and Willow Creek Junior High got in on the action and cheered the teams on. Thanks to all those that participated! It was great fun!

Habitat for Humanity of Utah County, Utah Valley University (UVU) staff and students and other community members joined Michelle Mariscal and her two children as they broke ground for their new Habitat home this past Wednesday. The three bedroom home, located at 764 W 600 South, Springville, will be built by students in UVU's Construction Management Department and is the third local Habitat home sponsored by the local University.

Thirteen new graduates from the “Getting Ahead in a Just-Getting’-By World” program were honored at a graduation ceremony this past Thursday at the Scenicview Academy. Graduates included partner families from Habitat for Humanity of Utah County and Community Action Services and Food Bank. Special thanks to Habitat homeowner, Tauni Hardman, for facilitating this group.

The Getting Ahead program is a step-by-step life planning program that includes facilitated education, group support, and hands on experiences. Participants attend a weekly group session facilitated by a trained facilitator and follow a workbook with various modules. The group sessions last for 12 weeks. The overall goal of the program is to help area families work together to break the poverty cycle, find solutions to community issues, and build bridges to a more stable and productive life. The program continues to be very successful with 67 graduates since the program's inception in 2008. The next group will begin January 2011.

Habitat for Humanity of Utah County celebrated the United Nations Annual World Habitat Day this past Monday at the ReStore in Orem. The local Habitat affiliate had a big ReStore sale, provided information about Habitat and its programs to the public, and gave away hotdogs, balloons, and popcorn. The purpose of the World Habitat Day is to call attention to the current global state of the human habitat and push toward adequate housing for all. The annual day is a day for grassroots action and a day for people to be united in their efforts to eradicate poverty housing.

Habitat, Home Builders Finish Blitz Home, Turn Over Keys

Over 132 Utah Valley Home Builders Association (UVHBA) members, local subcontractors, community volunteers, and Habitat families gave over 1,375 hours of their time and talents to blitz build a 1,560 square foot home for Daniel and Jennalee Moreland and their four young children in Springville. The four bedroom, two bathroom home, located at 758 South 750 West, was completed in less than two weeks and was the first local Habitat home be radon mitigated. Keys were turned over to the Moreland family on September 27, 2010 during a moving ribbon cutting celebration. The Moreland’s and their extended family gave close to 1,000 in sweat equity hours – double the program requirements. We appreciate the UVHBA, Hatfield Homes, Springville City, Springville Chamber of Commerce, Utah County Health Department, and all the other sponsors and volunteers that made this safe and affordable home a reality!

Employees from AM Bank took time off work this past week to help get the Blitz home in Springville ready for occupancy this coming Monday. Bank employees put on their cleaning hats and washed windows and walls, cleaned out cupboards, swept out the garage, etc. at the newly completed home. We appreciate the ongoing support of the local financial institution!

The inspiring evening included thought provoking talks by Habitat homeowner, Isileli Tukuafu, Pastor Bernie Anderson from the Wasatch Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church in Salt Lake, and Reverend Daniel Haas from Provo Community Church. Well known soloist, Serena Kanig Benish, and her students also shared their talents and provided beautiful and moving music at the event. DAY SEVEN - THE 2010 HOME BUILDERS BLITZ

After taking Sunday off - we were off and running again today at the Blitz Build in Springville. Today's theme was FINISH! FINISH! FINISH! The stucco guys put on the final coat of stucco. The plumbing, HVAC, and electrical subs installed toilets, sinks, lights, hooked up the furnace, put on plug covers, etc. The carpet and vinyl were put down and the cabinets and countertops were installed in the kitchen and bathrooms/ Closet systems were placed in all the closets through out the house. The end is definitely near - some touch up and a few more interior and exterior items and we will be ready for the ribbon cutting on September 27th. The Moreland kids are excited - today they found a large sandbox (or cornfield) to play in next to their new home.
