42nd Ribbon Cut

Many local community members braved the snowy and cold weather to help Habitat for Humanity of Utah County celebrate the completion of its 42nd Utah Valley home this past Tuesday. The 3 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom home, located at 165 East 300 South in Orem, was built with Shirley Ashby and her two young children. This was the second local Habitat home sponsored and constructed by TD Ameritrade and its employees. We are grateful to online stock trading company and all those that made this home a reality!

The new homeowner's dad shared this poem at the ribbon cutting.
YONDER THE LIGHT
By: Ben B. Ashby 3-8-2011

Ripped jeans and torn nails,
sore backs and blisters.
Bruised bumps and swells
on a pair of young sisters.

Paint in her hair,
sawdust in one eye.
Finish by sunset?
We'll give it a try!

Bakers and bankers,
teachers and teens,
students and seniors
with limited means.

Dentists and doctors
of various bents.
Paupers and preachers
and past presidents.

All come together,
a strange mix indeed!
All to help someone;
Someone in need!

A mother with children
who'd love to provide
a place for her kids
to grow up with pride.

Some old folks who's illness
took all of their funds.
A family of 9
avoiding the slums.

Normal . . .hardworking,
just like you and I.
Through bad-breaks, mistakes
or the "wheel in the sky."

For whatever reasons
they just need a hand.
to face it alone
would be too much to stand.

Say what you will of
this dark world's insanity.
See yonder the light;
A new Habitat for Humanity.
