Habitat Celebrates Completion of its First Ever Full Women Build Home!

Habitat for Humanity of Utah County celebrated the completion of its first full Women Build home with a ribbon cutting celebration and culmination event. Over 150 volunteers and other community members joined the Krystle Long and her two children as they cut the ribbon on the home, located at 548 South 500 West in Provo, on Friday night. Those in attendance also had a chance to tour the beautiful home, create a circle around the home with pink glow sticks, and celebrate with soup, S’mores, music, and t-shirts at the Corporate Alliance Hub. The home was also open to the public for viewing on Saturday.

Women Build is Habitat for Humanity’s program for women who want to learn construction skills and build homes and communities. This program brings together women from all walks of life to address the housing crisis facing millions of women and children worldwide.

The Provo home commenced in May during Habitat’s annual National Women Build Week and was completed this past week. It was built by teams of 92 percent women. These women were also able to raise more than 70% of the cost of home through the Circle of 100 campaign. The remaining funds were donated by generous sponsors.

The Circle of 100 gathered 70 groups of community women – consisting of seven to twelve volunteers each. Each circle donated $1,000 for the Provo home. These groups of women wrote checks themselves, got friends and family to donate, held bake sales, and raised funds via social media to accomplish this feat.

Special thanks to all the Circle members, volunteers, and sponsors that made the home possible including McCoy’s Flooring and Cabinets, Terry Olsen, Designers with a Difference, Jeannine Marvell, Galaxie Lighting, Powerhouse Electric, Progressive Power Solutions, Jenelle Coberly, the Women Build Committee, and Rock Solid.
