Habitat Kicks off 10th Annual National Women Build Week

Miss Utah, Lauren Wilson, and well known blogger, Brittany Jepsen of The House that Lars Built, joined Lowe's Heroes, Habitat staff and board members, other Miss Utah contestants, community members, and the Harter/Blackham family to break ground on Habitat's 67th Utah Valley home and kick off the 10th Annual National Women Build Week on Saturday, May 6th. Following the ceremony and breakfast that included delicious Stroopwafels from Mighty Baker, Lowe's Heroes and others worked on the four bedroom, two-bathroom home, located 420 South 500 West in Provo, being built with Kim Harter and her three children the rest of the morning. Lunch was then provided by 5 Star BBQ with an inspirational devotional given by Pastor Logan Wolf from Crosspoint Church. Following lunch, volunteers braved the wind and rain to help work on the home the rest of the afternoon.

Habitat’s National Women Build Week invites women to help make a difference and devote at least one day to help build decent and affordable housing in their local communities. More than 17,000 women, including Lowe’s Heroes volunteers, are expected to volunteer at construction sites across the country as part of Habitat’s 2017 National Women Build Week. In Provo, female volunteers will work help frame Harter’s home from May 6th to May 12th. Women from all over the community, including UVU First Lady, Paige Holland, UVU staff and students, Intermountain Health Care and Adobe employees, and Lowe’s Heroes, will be working on the home throughout the week. This is the 10th year that the local Habitat affiliate has participated in this annual event.
