Fixing It!

Habitat for Humanity of Utah County joined the Utah Recycling Alliance to host a Fix It Clinic at the Orem ReStore on Wednesday. “Fix-It Clinics” are designed to empower participates to become better stewards of their material belongings and reduce waste. Participants bring in broken items that they would like to learn how to repair and have the opportunity to work side-by-side with an experienced Repair Coach.

Coaches for Wednesday's event included Austin Taylor, Director at the Provo Bike Collective, Dustin Caldwell, a general repair specialist, and Joe Jarrett, a local contractor. The coaches helped those in attendance to fix a rake, scale, and chair, and to tune up some bicycles. Participants also received discounts in the ReStore that evening.

We would like to thank Utah Recycling Alliance member, Sarah Bateman, for bringing the idea to us and helping to plan the event. We would also give our appreciation to the repair coaches for their service and for donating their time. We are hoping to grow the clinics and hold them at least quarterly. We also need more coaches! The next Clinic will be in September. Watch for details!
