BREAKING THE POVERTY CYCLE!

Twelve new graduates from the “Getting Ahead in a Just-Getting’-By World” program were honored at a graduation ceremony this past Thursday at the Scenicview Academy. Graduates included partner families from Habitat for Humanity of Utah County, Community Action Services and Food Bank, and Kids on the Move. Special thanks to Habitat homeowner, Tauni Hardman, for facilitating this group. The Getting Ahead program is a step-by-step life planning program that includes facilitated education, group support, and hands on experiences. Participants attend a weekly group session facilitated by a trained facilitator and follow a workbook with various modules. The group sessions last for 12 weeks. The overall goal of the program is to help area families work together to break the poverty cycle, find solutions to community issues, and build bridges to a more stable and productive life. The program continues to be very successful with 54 graduates since the program's inception in 2008. The next group will begin August 2010.
