Nine new graduates from the “Getting Ahead in a Just-Getting’-By World” program were honored at a graduation ceremony on December 2nd at the Habitat for Humanity of Utah County office in Orem. All the graduates were Habitat partner family members. The Getting Ahead program is a step-by-step life planning and education program, sponsored by the local Habitat affiliate, which includes facilitated education, group support, and hands on experiences. The overall goal of the program is to help area families work together to break the poverty cycle, find solutions to community issues, and build bridges to a more stable and productive life. To date, 97 community members have graduated from the program that was started locally in 2008. Special thanks to Dave Harlow and Dale Wilkerson for facilitating the program.
